Boxing on the Boulevard - Terry Houlihan
Terry Houlihan has been through some difficult times in the past and present, and boxing is the reason he’s still alive today. His gym has been his heart and soul for 17 years. It's a great place to learn about boxing, and a great place to learn about yourself.
There's a phrase splashed on the wall there that says, “Those who live are those who fight. - Victor Hugo.” Truer words were never spoken.
January 17, Terry was admitted to the ICU at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center for a life-threatening intestinal ulcer, atrial fibrillation and cardiomyopathy. After 3 weeks in the hospital, he is back from the brink and recuperating at home with the dogs.
Alas, he lost a lot of weight and strength during this ordeal. He's getting skilled nursing care and physical therapy twice a week, but other than that we are on our own for general caregiving. He's eating well, using a walker to get around the house, and he's getting better every day. Nonetheless, and it will be a while before he can get back to his gym and train his clients.
In the meantime, his landlord is in a quandary about rent and utilities. She’s an older, ballsy broad, and she loves Terry just like the rest of us… but she does have her own bills to pay. Let's help keep Boxing on the Boulevard open while Terry recovers and gets his strength back. There are so many people in his corner that any amount will do!
