Boxing Coach Sergio Chavez’s Fight Against Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer
For decades, Sergio Chavez has been the heartbeat of Albuquerque’s boxing community — a coach, mentor, and friend who has shaped the lives and careers of countless fighters.
Sergio trained some of New Mexico’s finest, including former world champions Danny Romero and Johnny Tapia, as well as standout local talents like David Martinez, Matt “Diamond Boy” Griego, and Archie Ray Marquez. Mentored by legendary cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran, Sergio went on to earn his own reputation as a respected cutman for major promotions including Bellator.
But Sergio’s impact reaches far beyond the boxing ring. Over the years, he has been there for friends, family, and countless people across Albuquerque, always ready to lend a hand, offer guidance, or share an encouraging word. He gave up his own dream of becoming a professional boxer to train and inspire others, leading by example and always staying in top shape himself.
Now, Sergio is facing the biggest fight of his life — Stage IV pancreatic cancer. The road ahead involves extensive treatments, hospital care, and recovery costs, creating a tremendous financial burden.
This GoFundMe is to help ease those medical expenses and allow Sergio to focus on his fight and healing. Every donation — no matter the size — will go directly toward his treatment and care.
Sergio has spent his life being in everyone else’s corner.
Now it’s our turn to be in his — and to stand strong beside him and his loving wife, Tammy.
Please donate, share, and keep Sergio and Tammy Chavez in your thoughts and prayers.
