Bownessie-Nature Trail and Childrens Activities
Donation protected

Bownessie was developed with an understanding that unsustainable behaviour is not only driving the climate crisis at a global level but is also promoting environmental degradation in the Lake District. Bownessie is working to promote sustainable behaviour change in the local community and 15.8 million visitors who travel to the region each year.
At Bownessie we raise awareness of issues impacting the natural landscape and promote ways in which people can make a difference to their everyday lives to make sustainable changes in the Lake District and beyond. To achieve this we aim to reconnect children and adults with nature. We hope to do this through fun activities such as nature trails around the major tourist hotspots in the Lake District National Park: Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness. By doing this we have the potential to reach millions of people a year with messages of sustainability. We have developed fun children's activity packs for rainy days and questionnaires for the most popular lake cruises. We are looking for funding to continue to reach more people, deliver school outreach and promote the Lake District as a holiday vacation for minorities who would not normally visit the Lakes. Sustainable merchandise is also an alley we would like to go down in the future.
