Jared & Allison's #Harvey Recovery

Please help my nephew Jared Bowlin and his new family, whose home and lives were ravaged by Hurricane Harvey. You can help by either donating, or by appealing to your own friends and family to get involved!

I'm Lisa J. Schanley, and I live in Los Angeles, CA. Jared is my nephew (one of many in my family). But though we have other family members in Houston, he was the only one whose home and life was turned completely upside down.

Your contributions will go to cover the re-build of their home and the replacement of their cars, and all of their possessions (including furniture & appliances) lost during the storm.

Their flood insurance will not even come close to covering even a small portion of their losses. But we can all do a little something to help...

When Hurricane Harvey threatened to ravage Houston as the most dangerous and powerful storm to ever come to the state, my nephew Jared and his new wife Allison (and their two kids) thought they were going to be okay. They'd just purchased and moved into their home, making sure to purchase flood insurance (even though they were not in the flood plane, they were right next to the bayou, so it was a smart decision).

They also didn't think they would need to evacuate, because of their location.

What they didn't expect was that their brand new home and almost all of their belongings would be completely destroyed.

Even after the water began to recede...

The devastation was unrelenting, and final, leaving very little that was not destroyed (even in the upstairs - all mattresses and linens/towels, etc.. were rendered useless...).

With multiple sub floors, the water destroyed the entire downstairs, from the floor, up into the "moisture barrier" behind the brick walls (not covered by insurance)... The entire downstairs will have to be re-constructed (that is, after the mold mitigation is complete).
And they could never have predicted that both of their cars would be completely destroyed

And their brand new home became a house on stilts, basically...

The worst part is that their flood insurance cannot begin to cover the cost of re-constructing their downstairs, replacing all of their furniture and appliances, replacing their cars and rebuilding their lives.

If you've wanted to donate and help Hurrican Harvey victims, but weren't sure your money would go to the actual victims, well here is your chance.

Right now, we are setting the goal of $50,000 and hoping everyone will see this post and share it with others who can help as well. Jared is the beneficiary of this fundraising effort and he will be withdrawing funds directly to help rebuild their home, replace furniture, appliances and cars...

Let's show my nephew and his young family that there are people out there who really do care. Will you contribute and help make a difference in their lives? If we all do, we'll be helping the lives of some really lovely people...  whose entire world has been torn apart by this disaster.

We thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and would love for you to share with your friends and family. You never know who is in a position to help, and/or who would like to do something. This is a great "something."

Thanks so much. XOXO
