Hi, I've created this GoFundMe for my friend Melissa as she's currently dealing with the vets and handling the emotional distress that happens to you when your little fur child is in the emergency vet. Melissa is a huge pillar in the animal community and could use all the help she can get as she navigates what's going on with Bowie.
Bowie is only 5 and a half years old, being adopted from Toronto Cat Rescue in 2019 with his “brother” who misses him already.
Words from Melissa:
He presented with signs of discomfort and was unable to ✨potty✨ every vet was closed so we drove to Whitby to the only one who could get him in as the emerg vet had an estimated 12+ hour wait time, we thought it may be urinary related and considering how much he was straining we decided not to let it wait and rushed him out. They ran a urinalysis which came back fine except for a very slightly elevated white blood cell count they gave him fluids, and antibiotics and sent us home with something to relax his urethra and pain meds once home he was able to pee but continued to squat but we thought this was due to him being able to pee finally and just emptying his bladder. He goes to nap which is understandable given his day so I go to lie down for a bit too. About an hour later I couldn't find him and I looked for him everywhere until I found him curled up in a closet, when I went to pick him up he did not struggle (very unlike him as he generally doesn’t like being held) and yowls as if in discomfort or pain. I set him down on my bed and give him a check over and notice it appears he has to pass a bowel movement but is unable to. I called the emerg vet, explained what was happening and they told me to bring him in ASAP. He is taken in and they agree that he’s clearly in discomfort and oddly quiet. His cardiac readings are good, but his core temperature is a bit low and his kidney enzymes are slightly elevated he’s unwell and while he does seem to be backed up with a larger-than-usual amount of fecal matter he should be able to pass it and it’s a bit concerning that he hasn't been able to and suggest keeping him overnight for more fluids and further examination. Today they called and said that he is still very under the weather, and has not passed any stool yet, but that his kidney levels have gone back to normal. they perform an ultrasound to try and get a better idea of what's going on internally after they perform an ultrasound they tell me that he’s perked up slightly since the start of the day. They manually removed some of the blocked stool and continued providing fluids. He has a small amount of free fluids in his abdomen and the ultrasound noted swelling of his intestines and suspected Segmental Enteropathy. A specialist will call me tomorrow to discuss the next steps, diagnostics and potential treatment moving forward.
The funds will be used for the emergency vet bill which is currently quoted at $4,000.
