Bowers Power

On Saturday September 26th, 2020 Chris Bowers was involved in a burn accident at our home in Washington, NC. We drove him to Vidant Medical Center in Beaufort and he was later transferred to UNC Chapel Hill Burn Center at 2 am on September 27, 2020. He has mainly second degree burns and some that are deeper. He will be staying in the Chapel Hill Burn Center for a couple of weeks pending everything works out perfectly (and we just know it will). He had surgery yesterday and we were blessed that all of his burns were covered with Suprathel and some covered with both Recell and Suprathel . He had a debridement to his face, but no grafting was necessary. He did have to have an autograft on his right thigh, to cover both of his lower legs but only in certain areas. Some of these grafts are covered with Recell (which is another form of grafting, it is a spray on concoction of Chris' own skin cells and generated skin cells ) and then covered once more with Suprathel. His right arm and hand were sprayed with Recell and then covered with Suprathel. His left arm was covered with Suprathel. Suprathel is an artificial wound dressing that attaches itself to the wound and mimics "true skin", it helps with the healing process, and once his wounds are healed the suprathel starts to flake and shed. He will be in splints for the next two days and then they will be removed. After day three we wait another four days, to remove his dressings, access his wounds and potentially discuss him being sent home. Once home, Chris will have extensive rehab therapy. Sherry has been right by his side and Christopher relieves her when he can. Their visitor restrictions are as follows: one person 9am-9pm and another 9pm-9am. Thus, only Sherry and Christopher are alternating shifts. This helps to keep infection rate low. Chris has VA insurance and at this time we are unsure of what they will even cover. With that being said, Burn Care is the most extreme and costly of health care. So, we are hoping that all of our family, friends, and boating family can pitch in towards his medical bills, expenses, and therapy. Once he gets home he will not be able to do much. As you all know, that is not an easy thing for him to do. Christopher will be manning the shop from now until Chris is able to work again. Our little family has a long road of recovery and rehab ahead of us, but we are very thankful we still get to see his handsome smiling face. If you feel led, please donate, I will make sure that all money raised gets delivered directly to him, as soon as he is back home. If not please pray for our family during this difficult time. We thank all of you very much for the calls, texts, prayers, and outpouring of love. We love each and everyone of y'all to many pieces.
