A devastating accident robbed Bình An of his entire family—his parents, his older brother, and younger sister. Until Khai Tâm entered his life. Khai Tâm—a gentle, impossibly optimistic young man in his twenties—was battling leukemia. He accepted the job as An’s caretaker just to afford his medical treatment. Despite being constantly rejected, belittled, and pushed away by An, Tâm endured in silence. Not out of weakness, but because he had a reason to live—and an unwavering faith in humanity.

From someone who trusted no one, An began to soften under Tâm’s steady, kind gaze. Tâm never saw An as “disabled,” but as a person—someone who deserved compassion, understanding, and love. Day by day, a quiet, profound, and sincere love grew between them.

Until An found out: Tâm didn’t have much time left.

He could have walked away. But An chose to stay, to live the remainder of Tâm’s life with him—with his whole heart. When An began chemotherapy alongside Tâm, they shaved their heads together—an unspoken promise: if they couldn’t live long, then they would live deeply.

They went to places they had never seen, ate food they had never tasted, and did things they had never dared to dream.

And when Tâm asked, “You didn’t have to do all this…”

An simply smiled: “Because I love you.”

Tâm passed away.

An kept living—like a shadow of who he once was.

Until one day, in a moment of despair beneath the freezing water, An opened his eyes… and found himself in another era: the Nguyễn Dynasty - Now, he was a poor thief, tied up and awaiting judgment.

Running parallel to this main story is a tender yet painful love between Đức Duy—An’s aloof uncle—and Bảo Lam—Khai Tâm’s childhood friend.

Lam once loved Duy with all the trust and innocence in his heart. But Duy—a man used to living by instinct—only saw Lam as a fleeting amusement. When Lam walked away, Duy thought he was fine…

Until he realized: no one had ever stayed with him so wholeheartedly, like Lam did.

And for the first time in his life, Duy wished to hold on to someone—not with control, but with kindness.

A Note from the Director

One of the most special moments in Bound by Destiny — and something the audience has been eagerly anticipating — is a small, intimate wedding scene. For me, this is not just a romantic highlight, but a symbol of the longing to be loved, accepted, and to have a true home.

When I wrote this scene, I thought a lot about people in the LGBT community who have always dreamed of a simple yet complete wedding — a moment where love is embraced just as it is. I want viewers, when they see it, to feel that raw, priceless happiness — a happiness that not everyone can easily attain.

As a director, I see this wedding as the emotional peak of the story: after all the loss, pain, and struggles, the characters are still able to hold hands and step into a future that is fragile yet full of hope. I believe this wedding scene will remain a memorable moment in the hearts of the audience, as well as in my own.
