Dear Family & Friends,
With everything going on in the world at the moment we understand that there are countless better documentaries/books/articles that you should be watching and reading- whether it’s to better educate yourself about the ongoing Black Lives Matter movement or to learn about any other global political injustice- so if you chose to read this today, we are extremely grateful and will keep it short.
As many of you already know, as of August 4th, Lebanon is the most recent victim of the harsh events of 2020.
Prior to the explosion in the city’s capital, Lebanon was, and still is, fighting against the effects of a pandemic, an economic crisis and widespread famine, on top of dealing with political tensions. We strongly believe that this year, more than any, is a test for humanity to come together in solidarity during these uncertain times.
As a result, from the 17th-23rd of August, Mel and I will be running 200km in 7 days (100km each), with a half-marathon (21km) to finish on the last day, in order to raise money for essential services in Lebanon- your donations will go directly towards funding emergency medical services, urgent food supplies and immediate rescue aid. Currently, 29% of Lebanon’s population lives in poverty, with 21% living on USD$4/day and 8% on less than USD$2.40/day, however due to this devastating recent event, these living conditions have been greatly exacerbated so any amount will go a long way!! Whatever amount we manage to total, we will be equally donating it to the following 3 local charities:
1. LEBANESE RED CROSS
2. DISASTER RELIEF FUND LEBANON
3. LEBANON FOOD BANK
