Help Eric recover after being hit by a car
Boulder based cyclist and mechanic Eric Jones was hit by a car while biking on August 22, 2021 in Boulder county.
Eric is currently in the hospital. His injuries are significant and will require multiple surgeries. They include a broken femur, shattered left knee, multiple broken ribs, broken clavicle, and broken fingers/hand issues that will require surgery. [UPDATE 9/8: Eric has made it home, but it will still be 2.5 months before he can bear weight on his left leg to walk, work, or ride].
Funds raised will help to cover Eric's medical expenses including the upcoming months of physical therapy and temporary lifestyle adjustments he'll need to make. The incident took place by the Marshall Mesa trailhead near Highway 93. The driver did immediately call 911, and is working with Eric to help support him as well.
Eric is a longtime cyclist and racer and a die hard bike commuter. If you don't know him from Colorado Gran Fondo events or CX racing, you might have seen him winning the Colorado Master’s State Hill Climb Championship up Mount Evans several years running. Or you might have run into him at Boulder Bicycle Works where he'd happily get your bike in top shape for a race or get you fitted on a brand new ride. He always made time for anyone who needed help, from supporting friends through their first races or working extra late to help customers with last minute bike adjustments before big events.
Eric is facing a challenging road to recovery, and will be unable to work or bike for the foreseeable future. We know he'll be working hard to get back on his feet (and back on two wheels!), but in the meantime please help send him some love to get through this tough time.
