I have organized a GoFundMe page to support the botanical research of Reinaldo Aguilar, who has been severely impacted by the travel restrictions imposed by Costa Rica due to the Coronavirus Epidemic. Please read on and watch the videos below.
Reinaldo Aguilar is a well known botanist living on the Osa Peninsula in Puntarenas province of of Costa Rica. He has contributed to botanical research for many years, having discovered or described as coauthor to nearly a dozen new species, some of which are endemic to the Osa Peninsula. From 2008 to 2018 he worked on a New York Botanical Garden Project to produce a database driven, specimen based, illustrated checklist of the flowering plants of the Osa Peninsula Costa Rica. Prior to that he worked with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas on the Andes to Amazon project, and with the Organization for Tropical Studies at the La Selva Research Station in Costa Rica. More recently, he has continued to work as an independent consultant and a guide for scientific studies on the Osa Peninsula as well as conducting research in his own research station: Los Charcos Center for Regional Plant Diversity.

On March 24, 2020, Costa Rica began restricting all travel into Costa Rica by foreigners due to the coronavirus epidemic, and Reinaldo's only source of income was lost.
His son Nilo has helped him create this video showcasing some of his work and explaining his financial situation.
A second video explains Reinaldo's scientific studies at Los Charcos Center for Regional Plant Diversity and how Reinaldo's amazing photographic skills have diverged into some beautiful artwork. He makes all his photos freely available to the public on his Flicker page at www.flickr.com/photos/plantaspeninsulaosa and frequently posts them on his Facebook page at www.facebook.com/historianaturaldeosa
Reinaldo's work is highly dependent on his camera equipment and binoculars, which are now nearly unusable due to fungus in the lenses as so commonly occurs in tropical climates. He is in need of replacement of his camera equipment and has no source of funds for this.
Won't you please chip in a small (or large) contribution to this cause! I am organizing this fund for Reinaldo because GoFundMe does not include Costa Rica. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to Reinaldo to enable him to continue his work.
Sincerely, Dave Skinner
