Boss is a 2-year-old Rottweiler who was placed on the euthanasia list in January because his medical expense needs were beyond what the shelter could cover. He wasn't placed there because he was aggressive, not because he was declining, not because he was unadoptable, but because diagnostics and answers cost money.
He is a big, giant baby. One hundred pounds of silly, goofy energy who wants nothing more than to run around with his toys and collapse into your lap right after. He's never met a face he didn't want to lick. His love for people and other dogs runs deep, which is something that is truly special for a breed that is so often misunderstood. Boss will lean into you for pets and look into your eyes like you are the only thing that exists on this earth. He is love on four legs.
But something isn't quite right.
Boss has noticeable gait abnormalities. His front feet don't seem to always communicate with his brain. This causes him to trip, fall forward, knuckle over, and drag his feet when he walks. He just doesn't move like a normal 2-year-old dog should. And somehow, he seems to have no idea at all. He meets every struggle with a goofy smile and a zest for life that makes you question if he's ever known life to be a different way. He wants to be here. He wants to live.
He has waited four long weeks for genetic testing to rule out a few conditions that often affect dogs of his breed and size. We held our breath and luckily, the results came back clear. So we move forward. Another day looking for another answer.
After meeting with a neurologist, we are leading with a few strong suspicions as to what could be affecting our big boy. The only way to know for sure is for him to be brave and go through advanced imaging. This is estimated to cost $5,000-$6,000.
The rescue that pulled Boss is a small, locally run organization. They stepped up to save his life when his time was running out, but their funds are limited and stretched across so many dogs in need. This is why we need you. Dogs like him don't often get second chances like this, and if not for this very community, he might not have even made it this far.
Boss has come so far in our home. He is learning basic commands, how to respect boundaries, gaining confidence, and finally experiencing how it feels to be loved and cared for. He has a great quality of life and he deserves the chance to find out what's going on so we can give him a beautiful future that every dog deserves.
He was almost euthanized because of a price tag. We refuse to let that be the reason his story ends now. This is your chance to be a part of his comeback story.
Every share helps. Every donation matters. No matter the size, it brings us closer to an answer and a plan forward.
Let's show Boss that he is more than just a price tag and another number at the shelter. Let's show him that he is worth it. This is for him and every other voiceless dog out there hoping for someone to step up.
