We are raising money for a nonprofit, based in Lawrence, MA, called Si Se Puede (translated from Spanish Yes We Can!) that runs a low-to-no cost camp each summer for kids whose families live in public housing and would otherwise not be able to attend.

The Camp, Project Away, welcomes 60-70 elementary and middle schoolers who participate in after school program during the academic year. It includes on-site and field trip experiences that emphasize community building, respect for differences and cooperation.

Lawrence is a former mill city located about 45 minutes north of Boston. It’s a community that welcomes immigrants from all over the world who bring amazing culture and a determination to thrive. That said, many in Lawrence struggle with poverty, stable housing, and meeting the basic needs of their families.

If you have kids in your life, you know that the summer can be an amazing time. But for many kids from lower-income communities, summer can be a time of boredom and loss of positive connections they have during the school year.

When children attend a summer program it helps decrease what is known as the “Summer Learning Loss.” This is when children revert backwards academically and social emotionally due to the lack of daily academic and social engagement.

Our team is committed to ensuring an amazing camp experience for every child who attends Camp Away this summer. Our funds will provide the necessary transportation to get kids to and from amazing experiences in new and exciting places. We’ll also provide every child attending Camp Away with a backpack containing all of the essentials they’ll need this summer: hats, towels, bug spray, sun block, water bottles, flip flops and more.
