Born Like This Orphanage Project
Born Like This is a small non-profit refuge for disabled and orphaned children in Kenya, Africa.
This non-profit was founded by leader Phoebe Onyango in May 2015. They offer refuge to disabled and orphaned children and receive no monetary support from their government. They run solely off of donations.
Dan Copes, a musician and humanitarian of Pennsylvania, USA connected with Phoebe online in 2019. He began an initiative to help this small orphanage become self-sufficient by obtaining their own land, growing food, and raising animals.
On July 8, 2020, Daniel was diagnosed with a very rare Stage 4 Adrenal Cancer. The children were supporting Dan the whole way, sending him videos and messages of love and support on his journey with cancer.
While hospitalized, with the help of his partner Kailin Bouse, the couple was able to fundraise for school supplies, but they were unfortunately unable to raise enough funds to complete Dan's sustainability project.
Daniel Copes passed away 2 months after his diagnosis on September 8, 2020, at the age of 31.
In Dan’s honor, Kailin has made it her mission to complete the sustainability project Dan started for the children at Born Like This.
With your donations, Born Like This orphanage will finally have the resources they need to build, farm, and live on their own land. It has been Phoebe's goal since day 1 to become a fully self-sufficient community.
"We never want to have to ask for help again. We want to do for ourselves and then give help to others." —Phoebe Onyango, Founder of Born Like This Kenya
The children currently are in dire need of help, as they have recently been displaced from their rental land and are in need of new land. They are living in temporary structures and are not safe.
Dan started this project.
Can you help him finish it?
