On April 21, 2020, Boris passed away at the age of 37 from Glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive brain tumor with no cure. Less than 5% of people diagnosed live beyond 5 years. Most people don't respond to treatment and even with surgery, the tumor progresses. Glioblastoma kills in the most horrific way possible, the effects of the tumor are devastating. Not only does one suffer cognitive deficits, you endure multiple physical deficits, the depression, and the emotional trauma. One's only left with a shell of what they used to be.
A FB post by Lisa, his beloved wife:
“There really are no words to describe this heavy feeling on my heart. I'm overcome with grief. Today I lost the love of my life, the father of my precious babies. He was an incredible father, husband, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Boris is a warrior, he's as tough as they come. He had 3 surgeries in addition to multiple treatments that just did not work. He fought hard for 16 months. He fought hard to try to survive and watch our babies grow up. He fought hard to survive so that we could grow old together. But that will never happen. Please if you could donate, even if it's a little something, to the Glioblastoma Foundation. We need a cure or at least more effective treatments for this terrible cancer so that no families should have to go through what we've had to endure.”
I’ve set up this GoFundMe on behalf of my cousins Lisa & Boris, and their beautiful babies, Arthur, 6, and Penelope, who will celebrate her 1st birthday next week. I’ve known Boris since I was 15, and have watched his and Lisa’s relationship blossom from high school sweethearts, to husband and wife, and to mom & dad. They were together for over 18 years. From the very beginning, Boris was family, and we all had our very own special bond with him. Lisa & Boris are genuinely two of the most beautiful souls I’ve ever known, and the most undeserving of their tough journey over the last 16 months. Even in the most difficult times, Lisa remains selfless, putting others above herself and only seeking support for those who are or will endure the same. For those who don’t know her, this is a testament to how amazing of a person she really is.
In addition to the current chaos of the world, it is an exceptionally difficult time for the family. All donations will go toward Boris’ funeral costs, services planned for a later date, as well as financial support for Lisa as head of the household, caring for their children and her parents. Your support, whether its words of kindness or a financial contribution to this fund, is greatly appreciated.
