Hi I'm Borg Jones and this is my fundraiser!
I live in California and have lived here for most of my life. I love it here and I'm so grateful to be here.
I love hiking so a lot of this photo is from a hike I like to go on.
I've been a leftist for 5 years and some change and I owe a lot to my ex for guiding me in the right direction which exposed me to many different cultures and parts of society.
I'm a year and some change into being apart of this community and found it because I slept with the tv on and was raided throughout the night and from there found connections with so many lovely and sweet people that made me feel comfort.
I am a person who has struggled bouncing from being in the military (before I medically separated), to working odd jobs and touring doing standup comedy, I was kicked out of my home then became homeless and did drugs while working at a carwash for cash, and I recovered and rebounded back in 2020 into working in the tech industry and finance industry off pure luck and drive with no education in those fields.
Anytime I've lost a job, I've been able to rebound and find something quick off my job experiences and positive attitude.
I experienced a car accident back in June of last year and had to take off a lot of time from work to go to doctor's appointments, get X-rays, and do my best to recover from broken ribs and my fixing my spine and shoulder. (I am still working on recovery from that accident but I'm doing a lot better now)
Unfortunately, at the end of September/beginning of last October I lost my job.. but this time it was different.
I tried applying for food assistance and the restrictions were a lot tighter since the last time I applied for it so I didn't receive the full amount for EBT ($45/month total and that wouldn't increase unless I had 0 income) and my unemployment checks barely covered my rent + utilities + other bills.
The job market in my area was a lot harder than expected and I experienced more rejection due to the lack of education.
So I found out there was a program my state was offering where I could get an extension to my unemployment if I went back to school.
I enrolled in the educational program for cybersecurity (while still looking for work) and I called unemployment to get the extension back in December but for some reason there was an issue with it being filed properly.
The state covered the schooling and all those fees but not the help with my unemployment payments getting extended.
I noticed that the balance for my unemployment didn't increase and I called back in for the extension in February and was told it wasn't filed so I had to refile for the extension.
Unfortunately after refiling for my extension I was denied even though I filed in a program that the state offered and was told doing so would help me extend my benefits. I'm doing my best to appeal but was told it would be extremely difficult and would take a while.
I am receiving my final $300 next week (on 4/5) (which barely covers my cost of living) and I am facing homelessness again.
I'm stubborn and I don't like to ask for help but I am currently out of options here.
My Goal: I need enough for at least 3 months of living and if I can't find any work after that time frame, to help me transition into living out of my car.
I know that sounds rough and bleak but I don't really have a lot of options here and I need to buy time.
Please if you can help me I'd greatly appreciate any sort of support.
