First responders are a vital part of our community and are often required to face traumatic circumstances as part of their day-to-day job which can take a toll on their health and well being

Boots On The Ground is a not-for-profit organization completely run and staffed by volunteers.  We provide anonymous, compassionate and confidential peer support and suicide prevention for first responders throughout Ontario who are seeking help to prevent the development of occupational related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other stress related issues they may encounter.

The first $5,000 raised helped us launch our program on November 26th, 2018 and train our initial team of volunteers with lived experience as first responders within our community. They have received specific training to provide in-person and virtual support to their fellow police officers, firefighters, paramedics and corrections officers.  Seventy-five volunteers have been trained and 30 more will be trained in the next few months.  Our service model requires 126 trained volunteers completing two 8 hour shifts per month.  We will be recruiting and training an additional 40 volunteers later this year.

Boots On The Ground offers peer support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, extensive referral list, resources and advocacy.  A tremendous number of trained volunteers is required to ensure support is available for our heroes when they are ready to reach out to us.

Funds raised will be used to train these new volunteers in peer support and suicide prevention training and the operation of our toll-free number and website services.

We are a completely volunteer run organization and rely on the support from our community to ensure that we are there for our first responders when they need us.

From all of us at Boots On The Ground we want to thank you again for your generous support and update you on our progress. We have reached our campaign goal of $5,000! Your generous contributions enabled us to launch our program including a toll-free service on November 26, 2018. During our first months of operation we have responded to numerous calls from first responders across the province.

Your contributions have enabled us to recruit and train volunteers allowing us to answer the phone and provide mobile support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, we set up systems and procedures so that we can provide quality service to our fellow first responders.

Thank you,

Dave McLennan
