Boots’ IVDD Emergency Recovery
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ashley and this is Boots - a legendary UC Davis Doxie Derby competitor, the sweetest soul, and his human Dora’s best friend. Last Tuesday, Boots began showing signs of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), which is very common in Doxies. After being rushed to the ER, he was sent home, but his neurological capabilities quickly declined as he was effectively paralyzed by Wednesday morning. Boots underwent emergency surgery Wednesday afternoon, and has been in the care of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine since. He is recovering well and has regained some motion, but he has a long road ahead of him - his estimated recovery time is between 4-6 months.
Boots’ human, Dora, is a Ph.D. student. The cost estimate of Boots’ surgery and subsequent hospital stay was quoted to be at minimum $7,200, but he is still in the care of UC Davis Vet Med and the bills are expected to be much higher - not even including necessary future follow-up visits. We are all so thankful that Boots has the best care and people to get him through these tough times. We’re all rooting for you, Boots!
Anything you can donate helps immensely. Thank you for donating and keeping Dora and Boots in your thoughts! We’re sending them all the good vibes!
