The Nakasuk school's impact on the community in Iqaluit is truly remarkable! Whether it’s through their lunch and after-school food program (unfortunately, in some cases, the school’s food program is the only sustenance some students receive each day), numerous after-school programs they volunteer to run aimed at providing students with opportunities to experience and develop new skills, or through their countless hours and efforts to continue to build and promote their Inuit curriculum, everything the school does is centred around developing their students.

It has become apparent that the school is facing a significant challenge. A lack of technological resources (e.g. iPads/Laptops and Smartboards) and the knowledge of how to use the resources they do have. Both hampers their ability to provide students with the best education possible. To put this into perspective, they only have one set of iPads, which is shared across 23 classrooms, while classrooms across Canada have a set of laptops/iPads per classroom. They have four classrooms without a smartboard (think old-school chalkboards), and six classrooms are still without a laptop or a workstation for teachers or students to use. As a result, Teachers are using their personal data, computers, and iPads to ensure their students are not missing out on important lessons and educational opportunities.

Now, let's pause for a moment and consider the impact we could make by uniting to provide these students and teachers with the tools they need to thrive in today's digital world. To this end, I propose that we all agree to donate one day's pay to raise funds for the school. When made by all of us, this simple gesture will create a significant ripple in the lives of these students and contribute to their educational journey.
