Boost Museum Visits: Donate to Match our Challenge Grant

Tax deductible

We have great news to announce! A loyal donor and supporter of the museum has just offered a $10,000 Challenge Grant Campaign. If we can raise $10,000 in funds from other donors first, he will match that number! The Challenge Grant will be used by the Museum to broaden the number of visitors to the museum and to improve the interpretation and management of our museum collections so more can be discovered during a museum visit.

We've raised $5,000 so far and only need to raise $5,000 more to meet the $10,000 Challenge Grant goal. We are asking for your support to meet our goal so more people can enjoy our past.

Our extensive collections in three indoor exhibit halls, and a 19th century historic Village and Homestead allow the past to be explored by all ages.

Early trades are taught through living history interpretations.

Blacksmith shaping metal into nails.

Early farming methods of cultivating the soil and harvesting the crops are favorite activites amoung children.
Planting Potatoes

Harvesting Potatoes

Children learn that in the past, potatoes were harvested by hand.

Watching an outdoor bake-oven in operation similar to those used on early 19th century Maryland farmsteads is fun for children through senior citizens.

During field trips to the museum, children learn that the country store not only served as a place to buy staples for the home, but was also a post office and a place for the community to meet and share the local news.

The Past in Motion is demonstrated through our collections in our Transportation museum which include vehicles that travelled the early roads of Washington County.
Our Early Living Museum contain a huge collection of 19th and 20th century artifacts that reflect the industries and technologies of the day. The water exhibit tells the story about the early water systems and stresses the importance and convenience of water.
Our museum scavenger hunt provides learning fun at differnt age levels for children pre-k on up.
