Boost Kenzie's Independence with a Van
Donation protected
Hi! My name is Brooke Johnson. I have been taking care of my quadriplegic sister full time 24/7- 7 days a week for almost the past three years since her car accident that left her paralyzed from the neck down. We recently have been hit hard as I just went through a cancer diagnoses that left me without work for over a year. We recently hit a deer that crushed the front of the van. It needed a new radiator, fuel line, both headlights replaced. We need new tires. This is a short term fix as it will not last much longer. The van we have now we have been very fortunate and it’s made the past couple of years easier to get my sister around. It’s an older van a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country and if I would turn it into the insurance they would total it and we would be left without transportation for my sister because of the year and how old it is. She currently does therapy 2 days a week in Columbus 2 hrs away from our home. We recently just got a YMCA membership 30 mins from our home to do pool therapy and hit the gym on the days between therapy. We also go to church at The Rock Parkersburg, WV. Traveling is always difficult with the wheelchair but having a new van could ease some of the stress and anxiety of breaking down and being stuck with no way to transport her wheelchair or herself. We need something reliable to get her back and forth to appointments, therapy, out of town, to church, to YMCA, grocery store everyday life in general. Kenzie has came a long way in her recovery. Doctors tried to tell us she would be permanently on a ventilator and feeding tube for the rest of her life, BUT GOD had other plans. Everyday we strive to be positive and live life as we know we aren’t promised tommorrow. A new van could help Kenzie and my family so much as this type of van can be very expensive ranging from $50,000-$90,000 and I just can’t afford that type of monthly payment with all the other bills, full coverage insurance, and the care that I give her daily. We will be trying to fundraise as much as we can in hopes to buy it out right and adding to freedom and reliability in her life. She is such a driven and inspiring young woman who has so much life to live and things to experience. She is 29 years old. Never married. No children. She was a nurse assistant prior to her disability. Her hopes were to go to nursing school as she loves helping people and still does. Please help me give her this. She deserves this and so much more. We are saving monthly a little at a time to add the NEW VAN FUND. Please JOIN US. Also please keep us in your prayers. We have a long journey ahead of us. Thank you so much.
