WHAT: Boone Park playground (south) is more than 25 years old and is ready for NEW playground equipment that is safe, compliant, innovative, multi-generational (things everyone will want to play on), and just plain cool! We want to make this a destination playground with new swings, slides, climbing equipment--things to fascinate and challenge. This playground will have your kids begging to get out of the house, away from the TV and video games and out into the fresh air.
HOW: The funds we raise here and through other venues will be matched by the City of Jacksonville's Parks & Recreation Department and by District 14 city councilman, Jim Love. Our goal is $10,000. Your donations will help us purchase new playground equipment!
WHEN: April 2, 2016 is our goal. If we have funds in hand it will still give us time to have a new playground the fall of next year.
WHO: We are volunteers...the Friends of Boone Park South. And although the city of Jacksonville will help us rennovate the playground, there isn't enough in the budget to really make this place something special. Simply put, we need a public/private partnership of contributions to make it happen.
BACKGROUND: In the early 1990s some people had a wonderful vision of what Boone Park (bound by St. Johns Ave. and Van Wert) could be. They volunteered time and money to turn a once-neglected city block into a beautiful wooded landscape with paved trails, benches AND a playground.
To them we say THANK YOU! Our children have enjoyed hours and hours of play, freedom and fresh air thanks to their vision. It is now time to ensure our kids are playing on equipment that is safe, engaging, durable, makes them want to play harder, stay longer and come back more often.
Please help us make this new vision a reality. Thank you!!!
