Boomerang Short Film

Hey friends!!

My name is Jasmine Ogunjimi, and I'm a Nigerian American Professional Athlete turned Screenwriter and Filmmaker. I'm currently in pre-production for my newest project, 'BOOMERANG,' a short film in which I wrote and will Co-Direct and Star in! The film is brought to you by my own media brand Rebel Africa, in association with Claudia Chakmati and Rhiza Films.

Logline: When a rocky reunion interferes with their intended destination, a group of disagreeing friends rearrange their itinerary, making it difficult to both stay…and leave.

OKAYYYY...WHY SHOULD WE CARE?

Good question! Do me a favor, and set your sights back to the year 2020 (tragic, I know.) As a writer relatively new to "the Hollywood scene," I witnessed too many of my colleagues give up on their dreams and move back home, some by choice, most by force. I wanted to create a project to include as many of my talented peers as possible, highlighting a team of BIPOC creators both in front of and behind the lens. And after several conversations about the potential this project had to restore hope in their careers, I knew I had to see it through.

Boomerang touches on the one thing that was magnified tremendously during the pandemic: RELATIONSHIPS. Whether dating, platonic, familial, or in the workplace, everyone was/is experiencing some shift in the realm of relationships. Finding love, abstaining from friendships that no longer serve you, or simply learning to set boundaries in the ones that do. If you go on this ride with us, we will show you the ups, downs, ins and outs of intertwining relationships that come to a complex and comedic head. All in one night.

WHAT ELSE HAVE YOU DONE?

In terms of writing, I've recently completed the 2021 cycle of the ‘TRIBE’ Writer’s program with HBO’s Amy Aniobi. I was then selected as a Fellow in the 2022 Circle of Confusion Writer’s Discovery Fellowship.

On the production side, as a result of winning won a '90 Second Pitch Competition', my most recent film BERMUDA was picked up and produced by Free Spirit Media, a Chicago-based Production company. The award-winning film, in which I wrote and starred in, is currently traveling the 2022 festival circuit. See the trailer below!
