Downtown Book & Sound is starting a monthly Community Circle Club! Your monthly donation $5-$30 gets you membership in our "Book" of the Month Club - building a Community of Practice around reading, music and the arts.

Ensure books, music and arts continue coming your way every month by making it monthly! Create a recurring donation and depending on the level of contribution, receive a new or used book [in your choice of format if new!] of our monthly Book Club Selection. Read - or listen - along or gift your copy to a friend.

Our first selection - in honor of our hometown author, John Steinbeck - is East of Eden and we begin reading October 1st. Joining our Book Club at the $30 level provides your choice of a deluxe East of Eden paperback [plus a commemorative bookmark and sticker], an ebook, or an audio book.

At the conclusion of our October 'reading' event, everyone in the club is invited to a live [and live-streamed] discussion with Steinbeck scholar, Susan Shillinglaw.

We will also host a walking tour of Steinbeck's East of Eden in Downtown Salinas. The tour will be livestreamed, so you don't need to be local to participate!

Other perks to substitute at the $30 Community Circle Book Club Member: CD, vinyl, Blackwing [IYKYK] or allow us to surprise you with a special gift.

At whatever level you are able to contribute, you're invited to our Author Talks, Live Music, Art Events and Creation Evenings. We host a drop in art night on Wednesday evenings and "Stitch-n-Bitch" fiber circle on Thursday evenings. Most Fridays feature live music and/or author events.

In 2027, look forward to more intimate live music events, and more local art and literary nights. The overarching mission for Downtown Book & Sound is to become a Certified B Corp that takes being a Certified California Green Business seriously and so we have started this account to help get us to this goal.

We wish to have a warehouse for online sales where locals are trained in warehouse work, customer service and online commerce, in addition to retail work experience. The objectives have always been to be a community resource for local talent and we offer free wifi for local students to study after school and on weekends.
