Books Between Kids Book Drive

For those who don't know me, I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist with a background of working with kids with speech and language disorders. I love helping children find their voice and am very passionate about encouraging language and literacy development for all children. Since becoming a mom, I've stayed home with my boys full time and work from home as an independent consultant with Usborne Books & More. We sell incredibly engaging and educational children’s books that are designed to help children develop a love for books!

 

For the fourth year in a row, I’m partnering up with a local organization in Houston called Books Between Kids to collect new children’s books for at-risk elementary-aged kids in Houston who are living in poverty. They will then distribute them at Book Celebrations at schools throughout the city! These are like book fairs, where each child can come in and pick out six books to take home, read, and love for free! These students typically have very few books at home, which puts them at a disadvantage compared to their peers who have lots of books of their own. Book ownership is linked to reading proficiency and educational success.

 

I’m excited to be able to provide Usborne and Kane Miller Books to these kids- they are durable, engaging, multi-sensory, educational, and fun! My hope is that the books I’m able to donate this year will spark a love of reading for many children and provide a time of bonding within their families as they gather around to read their new books together.

 

I will be raising funds through donations over the next week to purchase hundreds of brand-new books to donate. Usborne Books & More has an incredible policy for book drives, where for any book drive that raises over $250, UBAM will donate 50% of those sales in additional free books! So if I’m able to raise $4,000, Usborne Books & More will donate $2,000 more in free books! This will allow us to make a HUGE difference!!
