Booch's Battle Against Hip Dysplasia

Summary: Hi, my name is Booch! I’m a massive 9-month-old chocolate lab. I love running, swimming, and going on walks, but I was born with two bad hips and my back legs are starting to lose function due to severe hip dysplasia from a breeding mistake. I really need this surgery so I can get back to being a puppy with two new hips!

Booch’s Story: I was born in Southern California where I met my parents. I got to meet new friends, go to the beach, and the lake!

Life was great! Then I took a 22 hour nap in the car on top of all my mom’s stuff and woke up in Oklahoma. My big yard turned into a small apartment, but my family grew so much bigger and I got to go on so many walks.

I went on runs, walks, swims, and played at the dog park every week! My parents never let me go to work with them, so I would redecorate while they were gone—they never seemed to like my work.

I was starting to love all the attention and friends I had in Oklahoma! But I noticed it started to get harder to go on walks, up the stairs, play at the park and I didn’t know why. I couldn’t really get comfy unless I was on my back and my dad started having to carry me places when my legs wouldn’t move well.

I tried to ignore it and keep doing all my puppy duties, but my parents took me to the vet again and again and again until we found out I had severe hip dysplasia and need surgery. I personally love the vet despite what the other pups say. I get lots of pets and treats and pills that make my hips hurt less.
Then I got to drive with dad for 22 hours to meet his family and my furry cousins! I got to spend my first Christmas in the snow in Pennsylvania and came home with my very own basket to sleep in.

After Pennsylvania, me and mom drove to Colorado. I love running in snow, the crisp air, and I get my own backyard again where I stash my stick collection. Life is still great, but my hips are hurting pretty bad and I spend most of my time on my new bean bag. I try not to cry too much cause I know it makes my mom sad, but I’m hoping I can get new hips soon so I can get back to meeting new friends in Colorado and show off my new hips. I love my life as a military pup, I hope it doesn’t have to get cut short!
