“Boobs and Brain” - featuring Kate Crowley Byrne
In fall of 2018 one day after her 35th birthday, Kate was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. In true Kate fashion, she fought the cancer aggressively, underwent port placement , chemo therapy, a double mastectomy, and did it all with smiles and grace. I’m not sure any of us know how she did it with such positivity, but that’s Kate, if you know her, you love her.
On April 5th 2021, just shy of the 2 year remission mark- after 6 weeks of debilitating headaches- Kate was diagnosed with a sizable mass on the left side of her brain.
On April 8th Kate will undergo neuro surgery to have the mass removed, and will have another uphill battle ahead of her to again fight and beat cancer. Though, if anyone has the strength and determination to do this, it’s Kate.
Kate’s neurosurgeon anticipates a minimum of 6 months before she is able to return to work, as a nurse caring for others. This time line makes affording day to day life, never mind massive medical debt feel impossible to manage.
While Kate would never ask anyone for anything, she would be the very first in line to give anyone else a dollar, a warm meal or a kidney if they needed it, she is with no exaggeration a saint.
