Boo Cancer! Let's Help Alison Heal!

Donation protected
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is always a shock. For Alison MacNeil, the shock came in waves, as she received an initial diagnosis that was less serious, but after multiple rounds of testing she learned that she must immediately start aggressive treatment for Cervical Cancer Stage 3C1, which has expanded into her lymph nodes. She is still reeling from the news, her whole life has been turned upside down in the most frightening way, and she urgently needs our help.

Alison, like so many during the pandemic, has been out of work for much of 2020, and has no savings to support her. Though she had recently returned to work, she completed her last shift on 10/11/20, which means she has already received her last paycheck. She worked up until the very last minute she could, then Alison began a serious treatment protocol of combined chemotherapy and radiation treatment on 10/12/20. Alison must remain out of work and largely in isolation during her treatment, as her immune system will be compromised and she must absolutely avoid the risk of exposure to Covid-19 and the other seasonal contagions likely to make their way through the community this fall and winter. Plus, the side effects of treatment will cause Alison to need to rest and focus on healing, which is exactly what we, her concerned friends and family, want for her.

The goal of this fundraiser is to generate enough donations to fully support Alison in having all of her living and medical expenses covered until she can resume working. Our goal is to raise $20,000. We eagerly request you donate as generously as you can to help this strong and passionate being reclaim her health and get back to the life she loves!

Our funding goal is based on the following breakdown of Alison’s monthly expenses:
Rent = $1000/mo
Bills (including utilities, car payment and gas to ensure she gets to her treatment sessions) = $1225
Food = $400/mo
Medical Expenses (health insurance premiums, co-pays, deductibles, prescriptions, out of pocket medical costs not covered by insurance) = $1000

The initial course of radiation and chemotherapy treatment is expected to last two months, and Alison will need at least two months to recover from treatment before risking exposure to Covid-19 with a compromised immune system in her demanding, in-person job as direct care nurse. It is possible Alison will need to have surgery after the initial round of treatment, which may prolong her needs for support. Reaching this funding goal would give Alison the best chance at treating and beating the cancer and healing as well as possible to re-enter her life fully, safely, and joyfully.

After receiving the diagnosis, Alison told me that her life is better that it ever has been before; she loves her job, is living in an awesome place with horses literally under her feet, she has such great connection with friends and family, and with all her heart she wants to live long and be well to enjoy these blessings. Let’s help her make that happen!

Thank you so much for your generosity and care for beloved Alison MacNeil, our precious AliMac! She is much needed in the world to bring compassionate care to those she serves as a nurse, to cuddle with her kitty and be connected with the horses she is passionate about, to laugh with and support her family and friends, to love up and bring the fun to her awesome nephews, to make art and music, and to serve her unique part in our world. May you be blessed in return with all the support you need if you find yourself wanting. Gratitude to you all!
