Hi, my name is Bonnie.
I was born with Larsen Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects cartilage development. Because I do not have adequate cartilage to support my spine and major joints, my condition progressed significantly as a child. By the age of 12, I became paralyzed and have required the use of a ventilator full-time ever since.
Despite these challenges, I have built a full and meaningful life. I hold a university degree from the University of Winnipeg, a Certificate in Applied Counselling from the University of Manitoba, and I am employed full-time serving people with disabilities. I also run my own private counselling business, supporting others through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. I live in Portage La Prairie with my husband and our three beloved fur babies.
One thing that makes all of this possible is my accessible van.
This van is not a luxury—it is my independence. It allows me to get to work events, medical appointments, and to spend time with friends and family. Without it, my ability to work, contribute, and stay connected to the world would be severely limited.
Fifteen months ago, just two weeks before we were scheduled to move, our previous vehicle—a Chevy Uplander—broke down beyond repair. With no other option, we moved quickly to finance a replacement: a 2018 Dodge Grand Caravan. At the time, we could manage the loan, but the timing was devastating. The attempted (and ultimately unsuccessful) repairs to the old van remain unpaid, and the wheelchair accessibility modifications to the new van have also not yet been fully paid.
A few months after purchasing the new van, life happened—as it often does—and we began to struggle financially. Keeping up with the van loan became increasingly difficult, let alone paying the remaining bills tied to both vehicles.
Then in December 2025, for over a month, we lived with immense stress and fear that the van would be repossessed.
On Wednesday, January 7th, we finally received the news that the van will not be repossessed. After making a payment on December 10th and enduring weeks of sleepless nights, faith carried me through. I kept reminding myself that I didn’t raise this money for nothing—that I am surrounded by angels not to watch me fall, but to catch me. And they did.
Now, I am creating this GoFundMe to help pay off what is still owed:
To the local mechanics who attempted to repair the old van
To the custom metal shop that fabricated the aluminum sheet needed to secure my wheelchair safely in the new van
Your support—whether through donations, shares, or kind words—means more than I can express. You are helping me preserve not just a vehicle, but my freedom, independence, and ability to continue serving others.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your compassion and generosity.

Bon
