This is Buddy and Bonnie's "dad" John. As many of you know, I rescued Bonnie on St. Patrick's Day, 3/17/2025. She'd maxed out her 60 day stay limit at the Lancaster County SC shelter and was set to be euthanized. I was not looking to rescue another dog, but when her plight came across my Instagram feed, I felt compelled to do something, to save her. In the 60 days at the shelter, not one person had applied to rescue her. The stigmas of being both a black dog and being heartworm positive contributed to this.
Though I'd never had a heartworm positive dog, I wasn't overly concerned about her heartworm status as she had a $300 treatment sponsorship. However in my haste to save her, I did not adequately research the cost of heartworm treatment. I'd presumed the $300 sponsorship would cover most of that cost. Today, 3/26/25, my vet, Dr. Linda Schilkowsky DVM at the Burke Animal Clinic in Morganton NC, informed me the cost of treating Bonnie, along with the required multiple visits and overnight stay(s) could exceed $1,000. I cannot make that number work within my budget, so for the first time and herein, I find myself asking my IG community furiends and family for assistance in saving Bonnie. Any amount would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Should you require any further information regarding Bonnie's treatment, please DM me on Instagram.
Thank you,
John, Buddy and Bonnie
