My name is Bonnie and I'd like to share my story with you.  I was once a happy little pup.  I came into this world curious about everything around me.  Everything was new and exciting.  I had a family and a home and I just knew my life was going to be wonderful.

After a while my family didn't notice me as much.  I wasn't exciting to them anymore.  They lived busy lives and didn't have the time for me that they once had.  I was pretty much left on my own.

One day I found myself in a bad situation.  I was going to have babies of my own.  Soon I would have someone to love and I would be loved in return.  My excitement soon disappeared.  My human family barely had time for me.  They definitely didn't have time for my babies so as soon as they could they managed to get rid of all but one.  When they could not find a home for my last remaining baby they just decided they were done with all of us and put us both out.   My pup and I were now on our own.

We wandered around for a while looking for scraps of food and shelter wherever we could find it.  We were growing weary and were just about to give up when this wonderful human found us and took us in.   They were not able to keep us but wanted to make sure we were safe.  They took us to the local shelter.  The shelter had to keep us for a few days to give our owners a chance to reclaim us.  Of course they never did.  I was just grateful that for a few days at least my baby and I would have a dry place to lay our heads.  It was scary there but it was better than being on our own.  We didn't realize that we were in a High Kill facility and that our lives were in danger.  It was at this time that  Furever Angels Animal Rescue stepped up for me and my little pup and literally saved our lives.

After taking us in they realized that I had some "issues" with my health.  My pup needed a home and with the help of a fellow rescuer they were able to place my baby into a forever loving home.  I am so grateful to them for taking care of my little pup.  As for me, it's a different story.  The rescue group found me an awesome foster mom.  I was so happy.  She took me to the doctor to have me checked out and that's when we received bad news on top of bad.  Because of my neglectful owners I had developed heartworms.  If not treated I could die.  Little did I know this would be the least of my problems.  The doggy doctor did blood work and x-rays on me to determine how severe my heartworms were in order to know the proper way to treat me.  It was at this time they found out that I had an enlarged spleen.  The heartworm treatments would have to be put off.  This was a far more serious situation.  I needed surgery immediately.

The day came for my surgery and I admit that I was a little scared.   The doctor and his staff were very gentle with me and that helped me calm down.  The doctor said that in all of his years of practice this was by far the largest spleen he'd ever seen.  It  looked really bad.  It was black and huge.  They decided to take a few tissue samples and send them off for something called a biopsy.  I'm nervously  waiting for those results.

With the surgery being what it was the doctor had to close me up with staples.  It is so uncomfortable.   Even though they put this big plastic thing around my head to keep me from  messing with it I still can't help myself. I managed to scratch myself with my back paw which resulted in me opening up my incision and  I now have an infection.  The doctor had to redo my closure and now I get to wear these fancy little booties on my feet.  I'm a dog, I'm not supposed to be wearing fancy little booties.  They did give my mom something to help with the healing and the itching so I am feeling a little better.

I admit that I am scared.  I don't know what my future holds but I do know that God led me to these people for a reason.  They gave my baby a real chance at a fantastic life and they are trying to do the same for me and for that I am extremely grateful.  I know they really care about me and what a feeling that is.  One I haven't felt in a very long time.

I am sharing my story with you because I want to do something for them for taking such great care of me.  My story isn't over yet, it's just beginning.  They do this for so many others like me.  I know it is a strain on them but their hearts are so big.  In order to help me and others, I know they could use some help.  With my surgery being well over $1000, the heartworms, and my additional medical issues the total keeps rising.  I have created a gofundme page to try and help with my medical cost.  I know you don't know me but neither did these people when they took me in unconditionally.  If you can find it in your hearts to make a donation no matter how big or small I will be forever thankful.  If you can't contribute with money please consider sharing my story so that others may have the opportunity to help me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.  Hopefully, like my little baby, I will soon be ready to find my forever home too.
