BONNIE MCCUTCHEON MEMORIAL FUND

It is with a heavy and broken heart that we are starting this memorial campaign honoring Bonnie Jean McCutcheon.

Born in Arcata, California in 1946, Bonnie was proud of her Humboldt County roots.  For many years, Bonnie worked the redwood forests of Eureka with her late husband John McCutcheon and their son Steve.  Together they backbreakingly harvested majestic redwood logs (left behind as waste by loggers a hundred years ago) into fence posts and shingles.  Bonnie was a strong, tough as nails, hardworking person.  Back in the day, this Lumber Jane worked a chainsaw and an 8-lb wood splitting maul as well as any Lumber Jack!

She loved puppies, and kittens - especially her cat 'Mojo'.  With her sweet, kind and gentle heart, she was deeply loved by all who knew her.  She will always be remembered as the tie-dyed "Italian Ice Lady" at the Oceanside Beach/Pier and Sunset Market.  "BETTER THAN ICE CREAM", she would exclaim while serving up her ices with a dollup of love and a smile. Bonnie especially cherished her countless loyal customers

Bonnie underwent an emergency triple corinary artery bypass surgery July 29th, 2018.  After a lionhearted 3-1/2 month fight to recover from that procedure (she never gave up), Bonnie passed away on November 9th, 2018.

Her Life Partner/Joe Ryan stayed at her bedside virtually every hour of that 104 day struggle and was with her when she passed on.  The love that Bonnie and Joe shared was second to none. For 30 years, they were blessed with a love that many will never experience - not even for a day.  We pray that you will be equally blessed.

I am Bonnie's neice and have started this GoFundMe campaign at the request of her Life Partner (my Uncle) Joe.  Aunt Bonnie's health has been declining over the last couple years.  Joe's dedication to Bonnie's care, especially his bedside vigil over the last 3-1/2 months, has been a great financial burden.  All monies raised will be withdrawn from this campaign by myself and then personally delivered to Uncle Joe to help pay for Aunt Bonnie's memorial celebration and final expenses, as well as to help him and Bonnie's son Steve transition to life without Bonnie.

In this time of Thanksgiving, we are truly thankful for the kind thoughts, prayers and support from our loving family, dear friends and her customers.

Memorial celebration details will be posted here in a future update.  The only decisions made so far is that the location will be on the beach near the Oceanside Pier in a couple weeks and the dress code will be "hippie casual" - which means tie-dyes or nothing (naked).  We strongly suggest tie-dyes!
