Meet our good friend Bonnie Evenson from Frontier Sask who is battling cancer. As we all know, the costs incurred to receive treatments is quite high. We started this fund to help alleviate some of the financial burden associated with treatments and to give back to one who has been the heart and soul of the Frontier EMS service. Bonnie started her EMS career in 1993 becoming a volunteer EMT and working for RM of Frontier. She spent 10 years working EMS in Shaunavon as well. Bonnie has 3 wonderful daughters, 2 of which have followed her example with careers in the EMS world. One of her 5 grandchildren is also considering pursuing an EMS career. She joined Frontier fire rescue in 1995 and spent over 20 years on the fire department. We always felt safer when Bonnie was along, our own paramedic on board with us. Through the years Bonnie taught students in school and conducted our in-house con-Ed training at our base. Bonnie acquired a full time position as a paramedic with the RM of Frontier in 2012. Bonnie continued her education in the EMS and entered the community paramedicine program in 2015 and she was able to treat seniors and other individuals in the community with office and home visits. This helped many as she resolved their medical problems so they didn’t have to go by ambulance or go to the hospital. It has been an invaluable service to our communities.
Bonnie has been awarded the Governor General EMS exemplary service medal, the Governor General exemplary Fire Medal and the Saskatchewan Protective Service medal. She has been a strong and exceptional leader in EMS and Fire and there’s no one better to have by your side when on a call. Bonnie has given so much throughout her career and now is our chance to give back to someone who has given so much to so many.
God bless
