On June 23, Bonnie started experiencing pain in her right chest thinking it was from the movement she did at work. She went to the ER that night not being able to tolerate the pain anymore. They performed some tests Chest x-ray and Chest CT. On the Chest CT, there was an area of concern and they suggested seeing an Oncologist and getting a PET scan. That area of concern was "highly suspicious" for cancer.
She had her PET scan which showed that she does have an area that should be biopsied, but also found the initial reason of her pain was a broken rib. We aren't sure what caused the broken rib, but she does have Osteoporosis so between that and the movement from work possibly caused this broken rib. This cancer finding was an incidental finding and was not the cause of her pain. The lung biopsy came back and it was indeed cancer.
She met with the Oncologist and he saw some other area of concern on her left lung and wanted to order a few more tests before figuring out the proper treatment. She had an MRI of Brain to make sure there was no cancer that spread from lungs to brain, thankfully that was negative. He wanted another Chest CT to see if that area on the left side changed from the June 23 exam. The Oncologist told us that her case would be presented at Tumor Board to discuss with the other medical professionals on what the best course of treatment should be. During Tumor board they suggested doing a biopsy of her left lung, which will hopefully be scheduled this week. She has to have a pulmonary function test ( lung breathing test) which is scheduled on 7/21 to make sure her lungs could handle a surgery.
If her lungs can handle the surgery the plan would be to do chemotherapy to "shrink" the tumor and then have part of her lung removed where the cancer is located.
Bonnie is still in a lot of pain from the broken rib and with all of her doctor appointments has not been working at the recommendation of her primary doctor. Her medical bills are starting to pile up and she is concerned about paying them. If you would like to help Bonnie with her medical bills she would greatly appreciate it!
Please keep Bonnie and her family in your thoughts and prayers while we all work together to get her healthy!
