Bones is sick.... again...
Donation protected
Hi all my friends!
Were back again with a very expensive vet bill for Bones :( If you've been around for a while, you may remember me starting a GoFundMe for Bones about 5 years ago when I found him on St Thomas after Irmaria (if you know you know). At that time, he was sick with distemper, heartworm, had a hole through his nasal cavity/roof of his mouth, and needed a blood transfusion. On top of that, he was a skinny little bag of bones (hence the name Bones lol). He recovered well from all of this, thanks to the wonderful team at Canines, Cats, & Critters in STT and everyone who helped share/donate to his GoFundMe. In 2018, we traveled to Colorado to start veterinary school at Colorado State University. Bones has become a 4.0 vet student and has made lots of friends (human and dog) along the way.
Fast forward to last week (2 weeks before my vet school graduation), Bones developed a high fever and some vomiting. It was determined he had septic abdomen, secondary to liver abscesses, and was taken to emergency surgery. He had 2 liver lobes removed and had a couple feeding tubes placed. Unfortunately lost a lot of blood in surgery, so required 2 units of red blood cells and 4 units of plasma throughout his time in CSU's Critical Care Unit. In recovery, he had a seizure that we still cannot fully explain.
Bones is home now, and I am forever grateful to CSU's surgery, anesthesia, and critical care team. If it weren't for the incredible care he received here, I do not think we would have been so lucky. He continues to improve every day, and is still asking for belly rubs, walkies, and plays with his favorite bone daily.
Unfortunatly, our bill from this is many thousands of dollars. I set our fundraising goal at $5,000 which is about half of the total bill, but truly I am just hoping for any help! After 4 years of vet school, Bones and I have accrued a lot of debt and this certainly did not help. If anyone is able to share this GoFundMe or donate, we will be forever grateful! Also, if anyone has considered what might make a good graduation gift, this is it! I love you all for supporting Bones and I these past 5 years, I appreciate you reading this, and would love any help you can offer!
PS - Bones and I graduate on THIS FRIDAY (May 13th). I will be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, and Bones with be a Dogtor of Cuddles. Keep an eye out for pictures, I will absolutly be posting a lot.
