My name is Matthew, I'm 38 years old and live in Brunswick Victoria.

In 2016 I was diagnosed with a condition called Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) which involves progressive nerve damage to my spine, affects how my limbs function and over the years my ability to walk has deteriorated having to use a walking stick, then I progressed to a mobility walker, and eventually I will be in a wheelchair.

A few months ago my Specialist contacted me as an MRI I had showed my ALD has started to affect my brain.

When this occurs a Bone Marrow Transplant is the next option to stop the progression to my brain, as not doing anything can result in an 'end of life' situation in 12-24 months.

I am scheduled to have my transplant at the end of October 2023 which involves Chemotherapy, 4 Weeks in Hospital, followed by 8 weeks at home to recover and many follow up visits to Peter Mac Hospital.

Because of the nature of the beast I will be unable to return to work for approximately 6 months, and although it's unlike me to reach out for assistance, I would be terribly grateful for any donations you may have to assist me during this time while having no income. Apart from having all my regular bills to pay, I have the assistance of caregivers to cover also.
