In 1997, we started Bombay Palace as our passion and labour of love for popular Indian cuisine for the people of Den Haag.
It wasn’t easy. Initially two business partners, then one backing out, then some dishonesty, to a lot of good people with selfless care and finally; a relentless discipline of hard work by a lovely couple.
They ran through a path of upheavals as well as smooth successes. A husband and wife from basic humble backgrounds that migrated to one of the most developed parts of the world to survive, to strive.. to achieve. Their strong sense of community and pride in culture further pushed them to provide the best quality food from the Indian Subcontinent.
In a city like Den Haag and Netherland at large, it was mostly the expats that initially appreciated our South Asian flavours due to the fact that the locals were more accustomed to the Indonesian cuisine. However, with certainty, we can claim that we have had a major part to play in promoting and cementing our flavours on the taste buds of the Dutch!
It’s almost been 25 years now, and You have been with us all this time. Especially the last two years of the Corona pandemic were significantly tough on the entire hospitality industry because of successive (illogical) lockdowns. If it wasn’t for all of you constantly ordering from us for your WFH’s, dinner parties and rainy Netflix meals we might not have made it.
So DHANYAVAAD!
We require your support again.
On March 8th 2022, two weeks after the hard Omicron lockdown ended and we once again were fully open, after having just prepared for an exciting to-be packed evening… calamity struck.
Long story short, a flame erupted in the exhaust pipe due to a tiny coal spark that jumped up there. With storm Eunice creating quite some havoc a week prior, the outside exhaust outlet had snapped closed. This was detrimental, as you can see above.
From spark to a flame to a fire. Thankfully no soul was hurt, but this set us back in perhaps a grander way than before. We had to shut down yet again. When our entire surroundings were rejoicing in the pandemic practically ending, we struggled to comprehend this random outbreak.
It’s been 2.5 months now of shock, realisation, cleaning, planning, debating, discussing, demanding, renovations and repair.
It’s been a task, but we are working hard to return from 1st June.
1st October 2022 & 2023. It is for this that we need you all again. Our 24th anniversary and Silver Jubilee next year.
Apart from booking us packed every night for dinners and crashing our system with countless delivery orders, we want to ask of you an additional way to help us right now… something that would assist us in realising those two dates above; A GoFundMe initiative.
It took a lot of contemplation to publicly ask this, but remembering the genuine care from you all in the lockdowns made us also realise that we’re not alone. Much like a typical good old big Indian family.
The link is in our bio. Purposely, there is no minimum or goal amount set. We accept with gratitude and folded hands whatever you can donate to us.
As per our value of karma, we promise that whatever extra is given, which we do not require to get us up and running again, we shall donate to whatever cause/charity is possible in India and ASAP.
We feel immensely blessed and have heartfelt gratitude for all of you. Thank you once again.
Jald Milenge!!
