Bombay Beach Thesis

A coming of age story set in the Salton Sea, Bombay Beach follows Kinsley, a young girl who longs to reunite with her father in Los Angeles, and her older sister Annie who protects Kinsley from the truth.

This story focuses primarily on dreams, family, and childhood innocence.

Backstory:

Our thesis film started around three years ago when our Director drove through Bombay Beach and became fascinated with the Salton Sea area. About three hours from Los Angeles, the Salton Sea feels like a completely different universe. Once an up and coming lake town that rivalved Palm Springs, the Salton Sea has become a desolate wasteland with decaying remnants from the 50’s and 60’s.

Our story follows a young girl living in this desert that longs to move to the glimmering streets of Los Angeles, where she believes her father lives. Though she dreams of living a different life, being a young girl, she is stuck in Bombay Beach. Though her older sister has become jaded, she protects Kinsley and supports her dreams, though naive and childish, until Kinsley must face the truth of her life.

Why we need your help:

Making movies is of course very expensive. What makes our film even more pricey is that it takes place in the Salton Sea area. While this area is incredibly unique which will make our film stand out, it also is hard to replicate. Therefore, we will need to do some traveling in order to make this story a reality! Distant locations means more complications and hence more costs. In addition, our main character Kinsley is a minor, adding additional costs to our production.
