Shig was one of the most talented and easily the most prolific artist Bombay Beach has known. He built the Tesseract, the lighthouse, the SOS sign, the steps to infinity, all the cubes around town, and so much more. Before he died, he came to me very excited about this sculpture idea. He had made a small model and dreamed of making it large.

Now, thanks to Scott Fitzel, this can become a reality. He has come from Hawaii to build a 12 foot tall version as a memorial in Bombay Beach. We need money for materials and for a few other expenses. Please help if you can.

Unlike previous years, we have no centralized funding to support the Biennale or any art projects this year, and therefore are relying on generous donations from friends and community members for projects like this.

Background: The Bombay Beach Biennale is a renegade celebration of art, music, and philosophy that takes place on the literal edge of western civilization, at the shores of the Salton Sea. The Biennale, founded in 2015, transforms abandoned housing, vacant lots, and decaying shoreline into a unique canvas for creative expression. Artists, philosophers, creators and makers across many mediums donate their time and talents to the volunteer-led happening.

 

The Biennale hasn't officially happened since 2019, as the pandemic halted any major events. However, over the last two years, a more grass-roots energy has fueled the spirit of the Biennale as more artists and community members have flocked to BB to create art and community.
