The Boldon Colliery Heritage Group was formed in 2021 with the aim in mind to raise funds that will go towards the creation and structure of a memorial in Boldon Colliery that properly represents our proud mining heritage, and that also pays tribute to all those from Boldon Colliery who fought for the cause of freedom, and in service of their country.
We know that it will take a lot of hard work to get to where we need to be with this, and that it cannot happen without YOUR help.
With the kind donations of the people, businesses and friends of Boldon and beyond - whether that be a small or large amount - through fundraising initiatives and events, we can achieve what we have set out from the outset to do, which is to raise enough money to provide the village that we all love with a memorial that can become a focal point for our village and our people.
Lots of hard work has gone in to get us to this point. The group was formed by like-minded individuals earlier this year, and after the creation of a formal constitution, we were officially registered as a group in early 2021. We are now in a position, after many painstaking months of preparation, to get the ball rolling on this project.
It is currently estimated construction of the memorial will cost about £86,000, with the hope that it will be built on or near the roundabout at Hubert Street and Henley Way (subject to a successful planning application).
Through the securement of council grants (you can read the full story on this in the Newcastle Chronicle by clicking here: READ MORE) we have already been able to hand over the famous Boldon Colliery clock which previously was featured at the CO-OP building and the Royal British Legion club to a restoration company. The CAF grants secured £9117, with work on the restoration of the clock hopefully getting underway towards the end of the year.
We will continue to work tirelessly in order to achieve our dream of delivering this project, and as proud Boldon people you have our word that we'll give our all. This is a special project, however, and we won't be able to do it alone. We need you.
We've chosen to set up this GoFundMe page as the platform is secure and easy to use. Offline donations can be arranged in person, and direct transfers can be made into the account set up by the group using the following details:
SORT CODE: 40-42-34
ACCOUNT NUMBER: 81698567
We thank you for your time, and we hope that as a community, we can pull together to make this happen through as many fundraising initiatives as possible. Let's do the people of Boldon Colliery, past and present, proud.
