My dearest friends and family,
As you may know, for the past 4 years, I have been a board member for an elementary charter school in the Bronx: Bold Charter School. The last time I reached out to you was more than 2 years ago when we welcomed our first class of students. Now, in our 3rd year of the charter, the students you supported when they were in kindergarten are now 3rd graders who are preparing to take their first New York State exam this spring.
It has been a challenging journey for all of us, but especially for our young students who are entering formal education for the first time in their lives during this historical moment. Not only has our Bold students survived but they have thrived through the pandemic. They have adapted to learning online; they have practiced their phonics and fluency skills on Zoom calls with their teachers; they have recently returned back to learning in their classrooms.
As a charter, we receive public school funding per student from the Department of Education, but our goal is to pair that with private funding so that we can offer our students the most opportunities and resources.
At this time, I am reaching out to you again for your help and support.
