I have started this fundraiser for my parents to help with the loss of our truck. In the morning on Friday, July 8th, we loaded our first load of pickling cucumbers into our refrigerator truck after just getting it back from being fixed. After starting it up and feeling the fans blow, we closed the door and went back out to the field to finish picking our other half of the field. Within minutes we heard popping and could see smoke rising from behind the house. The cooling unit was on fire above the cab of the truck. We thank the Graafschaap fire department for arriving at the scene so quickly. It was a blessing no one was injured, and by God’s grace, our barn was saved!!! The truck (and all the produce inside) was a complete loss. Unfortunately, our insurance was also basic since we only use the truck a few months a year to transport produce from our farm to the Holland Farmers’ Market and the loss of the truck is not covered. Before having this truck, my dad would wake up every morning before market and load each crate from a cooler in the barn onto a trailer or truck. He did that for over 30 years! As he got up in age, he knew he couldn’t continue this strenuous work, but his passion for farming would never die. This truck allowed us to put the product right in after picking and eliminated so much of the back-breaking work at 3am. We can not say thank you enough to those who came out to the market to show my parents all the love and support this town has for its community. We appreciate the thoughts, prayers and donations that have lifted our spirits during these difficult past few days. Thank you for any contributions to help us in continuing to provide the best fresh local vegetables to our community!
