We are Mark Katnik and Michael Bodeen, the founders of Bodyotomy.
Teachers and educators often have to resort to spending their own money to cover the costs of classroom supplies. It is truly sad that many high schools cannot even afford to provide current textbooks for their students. Academic institutions should not have to struggle to grant their students the tools necessary for them to succeed. Anatomical models are often extremely over-priced; or when they are “affordable,” they are manufactured at a low quality and are at times anatomically incorrect. The upcharge on teaching supplies and inaccessibility to training in the healthcare sector has stopped passionate students from reaching their careers for far too long.
Bodyotomy is a non-profit educational support company with a strong intent: to make available to students and academic institutions the high quality, low cost anatomical models and training simulators they need. Bodyotomy exists solely to support these students and their future success.
Several productive years have already been devoted to the research and development of this project through personal funds. The development of a functional laparoscopic simulator is on-going and involves an innovative casting process to insure anatomical proportions and correctness. The model will serve multiple uses with interchangeable parts and will be reusable. In addition, modeling of bone and other organs is currently being done. Premedical students are involved in the development process and we will be seeking to eventually employ students in this process. The mission is to develop these models and to provide them to high schools who are struggling just to cover their needed supplies. Our initial target will be inner-city schools and then progress out.
Additional funding is necessary to bring this company and its mission to its feet. We all need to create the change we would like to see. You can make a difference.
