We need your help to bring a play about love and gender confusion to the stage. The play is Body Beautiful and its beautiful indeed.
Fans and Future Fans – this is your opportunity to help us take this remarkable play one step closer to a full-blown production!
My teenage daughters, Darby and Eme, and I saw a reading in January. We loved it and were moved by it. Darby said afterward, “Mama, this play needs to be made.” And it can be, with all of our help. The Fountain Theatre in Los Angeles has offered the playwright, Leigh Curran (www.leighcurran.net), a workshop production in May/June but they need funds to pay the artists who will bring Body Beautiful to life.
The Fountain Theatre will donate production support, rehearsal space, box office, casting services, PR, spread the word about our GoFundMe campaign and invite producers from local theatres to consider a world premiere production of Body Beautiful in 2020.
Body Beautiful is about love, aging, loyalty and gender confusion. Thayer, a 72-year-old, gay psychotherapist and his ex-wife and great friend, Emma, decide to move back in together to take care of each other through their old age. Emma is still secretly in love with Thayer but does her best to hide it until Thayer and one of his patients – a Mexican-American transman, fall in love throwing sexual orientation, gender identity and true love into question for all concerned. It’s funny, deep, thought provoking and humanizes the struggle between hatred and acceptance in very original and memorable ways.
