This is Bodi. He is 6 years old and a very happy Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler mix. He was adopted from jail (the animal shelter) at 2 years old and has been the best addition to our family bringing so much joy, energy, and barks to our lives. He LOVES balls and could chew on them all day if you'd let him. He has the biggest smile and loves keeping his mom and dad safe and happy. Bodi doesn't like a lot of dogs, but he loves his sister Wednesday and, of course, his momma and daddy.
Bodi hasn't been feeling very well though...he was first sick about a month ago, which turned out to be pancreatitis. We got him treatment for that, and he got better, but then he got sick again...We took him back to the vet to see why he was sick again and we found out he was anemic. So, we gave him treatment and meds for that, but he wasn't getting much better and he wasn't eating anything for a couple of days. Finally, the meds he was taking started to work and he was showing much better energy, but the lab results that we had done that showed a spike in his calcium still worried our vet. He had run all the tests that they could run, so we were referred to an animal hospital with a vet oncology specialist. Which brings us to this week. We met with the oncologist on Wednesday and found out that night what is wrong with Bodi.
Unfortunately, Bodi was diagnosed with cancer...Lymphoma to be exact. He has the type that can be fatal very quickly, especially if not given the right treatment early enough. The oncologist we met with thinks that we can extend his life expectancy from as little as 2-3 weeks (2 months if we're lucky) all the way to 8 or even 12 months if we start him on a chemotherapy treatment. It’s a small chance, but there is some hope for remission with chemotherapy treatments, which would be incredible. She said if we hadn't gotten him treatment for his anemia then he wouldn't be with us today...that was hard to hear.
As you can imagine, we still can't hardly process that our sweet boy has this awful disease, and at such a young age. We've only been lucky enough to love him for just 4 years and that's not enough :(...If this is the reality we are facing, then we know we only have one choice. As long as he continues to not be in any pain, we are going to start the chemotherapy treatment as soon as we can. We need more time with our boy. Which brings me to the purpose of this fundraiser.
We have already spent $4,000 on vet bills for all of his treatments, medications, biopsies, ultrasounds, consultations, etc. The chemotherapy treatment is estimated to cost right around $6,000. Asking for money has never been something I enjoy doing, but this is extremely overwhelming, and we aren't sure how else we can afford this. We just know we have to try. Anything helps, seriously. I know it's a large goal, and I understand that we may not make it to that goal. But any help along the way to keep our boy healthy and alive for us to love him just a little longer will mean so much to us.
Thank you <3
