Bodies in Ancient Egypt: Subjects, Objects, Media

Hi! My name is Uroš Matić, I am an Egyptologist and an archaeologist specializing in violence and the body in ancient Egypt. Together with two of my colleagues Dina Serova (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) and Alexa Rickert (University of Münster) I am organising an international conference titled „Bodies in Ancient Egypt: Subjects, Objects, Media“ (15.-17. July 2022) at the University of Münster in Germany.

Our conference will bring together leading experts in Egyptology researching on bodies in ancient Egypt:

D. Serova (HU Berlin)
A. Rickert (University of Münster)
R. Nyord (Emory University, Atlanta)
J. Carballo-Pérez (University of La Laguna)
S. A. Schrader (Leiden University)
D. Sweeney (Tel Aviv University)
T. Rocha da Silva (University of São Paulo/University of Oxford)
A. David (Hebrew University of Jerusalem)
L. Kerk (University of Münster)
N. Lazaridis (CS University Sacramento)
V. Angenot (Université du Québec à Montréal)
T. Pommerening, R. Brömer (University of Marburg)
K. L. Jordan (UC London)
F. Taterka (PAN Warsaw)
S. Speck (University of Mainz)
P. Moore Johnson (IFA New York)
L. Bortolani, S. Nagel (University of Heidelberg)
A. von Lieven (University of Münster)

This is the first time Egyptologists have organized a conference of this scope, and the themes include ancient Egyptian understandings of sex and gender, disabled bodies, royal and commoners´ bodies, traumatized bodies, bodies in media etc. The conference is important because it touches not only on topics important for Egyptologists, but for our society in general.

Our conference has received funding by the University of Muenster to cover most of our costs. However, we need additional support in order to publish the proceedings of the conference and provide our speakers with writing material and basic food and beverages during the conference.

For this we need your help! Every donation counts! You will be supporting an event organized by young postdoctoral researchers with bright career paths! You will be supporting an incredibly interesting event! You will be supporting a socially relevant discussion!

Thank you!
Dina, Alexa and Uroš
