Bodhisattva of Whimsy- Print Series

I'll be producing a print series of my painting, "Bodhisattva of Whimsy". This series will be a signed, limited edition of giclee prints on archival watercolor paper. The original painting is 30x40"; it's generated a lot of interest and in order to keep the prints affordable I'll be producing the prints on a smaller scale of 12x16".  As a contemporary Buddhist painter and a westerner I'm interested in exploring the way my culture and times intersect with Buddhist art, traditions, and teachings. An important part of my own practice is nurturing a certain lightness of heart. One of my favorite stories is of a student asking a respected teacher which of the five senses is most important to the study and practice of Dharma, the teacher thought hard and then replied, "The most important sense is sense of humor".  Just as a revolution must have dancing, enlightenment must have laughter. I'm interested in the sacredness of the mundane and in everyday divinity. "Bodhisattva of Whimsy" is a blending of traditional Buddhist and contemporary, western imagery. This can be seen as irreverence, or it can be seen a reminder that everything around us can help wake us up. You don't need to be Buddhist to appreciate her. Her serenity and beauty draw you in, and then she makes you smile. She has something to offer everyone. Existence is as hilarious as it is horrific; she reminds us to stay tuned in and to keep our hearts open and bright.

I'll be working with Hunter Editions out of Kennebunk, Maine to produce this print series. I've worked with Hunter Editions to produce two beautiful giclee print series in the past and I'm excited to work with them again. The printers there will be taking care of pre-press by professionally lighting and photographing the painting, and then I'll be working with them personally to color balance the image. Hunter Editions takes care of printing and cutting the series. When everything is ready, I will be driving to Maine to pick the series up personally. When I get them to my studio I will be signing each print by hand and packaging them carefully. The safest way to ship the prints will likely be to roll them loosely in sturdy mailing tubes, this will not harm the prints and will make sure that they reach their destinations safely.  If during discussions with the printers I discover a better way to ship the prints I will reassess things and make the changes that are necessary.  The size of the edition will start at 60 prints, if more than 60 people contribute the amount that entitles them to a print then this number will be increased to meet demand.  I care deeply about all my clients and take pride in the quality of the work I produce. I have complete confidence in my ability to produce a beautiful print series and I hope very much that you'll help make it possible.
