FOR A RESCUE DOG!!
I will never forget the day I met Bodhi on March 18, 2018. It was love at first sight! I was on my way to a pilates class and noticed two cocker spaniels in the back of an SUV in the parking lot. I saw that the dogs were in bad shape. The dogs were filthy, and their fur was severely matted. I instantly fell in love with the dogs. I spoke to the volunteer from San Diego Spaniel Rescue about the dogs. I was told the dogs were just relinquished from a filthy backyard in the backcountry of San Diego. The dogs were a father and son. It was reported that Bodhi and Nick were abused and neglected. Also, I was told that Bodhi and Nick survived a coyote attack that killed Bodhi’s mate and the rest of the puppies. I watched the dogs happily wag their tails as they went into the vet next to the pilates studio. Then as I was taking my pilates class, the teacher came over to me to see if I was okay. I was thinking about the two dogs I had just seen. I guess I had a weird look on my face! As I was leaving pilates class, I saw the dogs and volunteer going to their car. I spoke to the volunteer again about the application process for adoption. I went home, filled out the application and waited for the dogs to be available for adoption.
As I was teaching on April 13, 2018, I got a phone call from the rescue group to set up an interview at my home. I rushed out of school that day to get ready for the interview. That was the day I got to adopt Bodhi. It was the best day ever! (Nick was unable to be adopted at the time due to health issues. Nick was later happily adopted by another family in San Diego).
Bodhi has blossomed since I adopted him four years ago. Bodhi became an American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen. Bodhi is a friendly, happy cocker spaniel. He loves meeting people and is filled with an abundance of love. He loves to spread his charm to everyone he meets especially if they pet him and say hello. He loves to play fetch, chase after birds and squirrels, and dig holes looking for gophers at the park. He keeps me safe by being a dog on duty. (I have no idea about the danger I am in.)
He is my best friend, my soul mate, and he brings me so much happiness I can't even imagine a life without him in it.
In February 2022, Bodhi had tummy troubles and blood in his stool. After several trips to the primary vet, we were referred to an internal medicine specialist at VCA Animal Specialty Group. Bodhi was diagnosed with food allergies, inflammatory bowel disease, and they found a nodule in his liver. In April 2022, he was diagnosed with canine small cell lymphoma in his liver nodule. The oncologist recommends removing the cancerous liver nodule as soon as possible, so the lymphoma does not spread to other areas of his body. Bodhi needs surgery to remove the cancerous liver nodule.
Over the past two to three months, Bodhi's medical bills have cleared out any spare money I had. Unfortunately, I don't have pet insurance, and vet fees are more than I believed possible. I have spent over $5,000 on the many ultrasounds, liver nodule aspirations, cytology tests, etc. Last week, I spent an additional $2,000 on a CT scan using CareCredit. The estimate for this surgery will cost about $10,912.25.
Bodhi is my World and my best friend, and I don't want to say goodbye yet. We still have so much to do together; our love for each other is endless. Please help me help him get surgery and everything he needs to live the life he deserves. Anything is possible if we all help together. We would both be forever grateful and appreciative.
So on behalf of Bodhi and myself, I thank you for taking the time to read this.
