Last night I received one of the worst phone calls of my life, either euthanize my dog or pay 12k-16k for an emergency life-saving surgery or he will not make it through the night. We decided to save his life. But are now struggling with the reality of this astronomical bill.

Bochy's medical issues started back in late February, soon after we brought our first child home. He started throwing up, having major stomach issues, and losing most of his body weight. He was basically a skeleton that was getting sick all the time. We spent 10k on xrays, ultrasounds & a biopsy. He was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, and we did many rounds of steroids and medications and got him back to full health and weight.

About a month ago, he started throwing up again and having all of the same symptoms and weight loss. We immediately worked with our vet to start the steroids and hit him with all of the medications to stop the flare-up. He did not respond to any of it and last Thursday he stopped eating though he was on an appetite stimulant. So our vet said at this point we have exhausted what we can do without having an ultrasound to see what's causing the flare-up and that we had to go to the emergency vet.

Turns out Bochy was not having an IBD flare-up, he swallowed a squeaker from a toy and it was trapped in his intestines and his abdomen was filling with fluid. We were told we had to do this surgery or he wouldn't make it through the night. We chose to try everything we could for him. He made it through the surgery and is comfortable. They will be trying to get him to eat something this afternoon to get his body working again post-surgery.

I never thought I would be in a position where I would be asking people for financial help but here we are. I had to put down a 12k deposit just to do the surgery which could be up to 16k at checkout. Any amount helps big or small.
