Sorry to report that my good friends Pete and Maria Guitterez permanently closed their Inn in Summer 2021. We met in 2013 when I stayed with them for the first time. As a frequent guest from San Francisco, we became fast friends - and they also asked me to design their new website. Getting to know the entire family - Shahin, Dermaine, Jonas, Isabella, and Tico (their Macaw bird) was an added pleasure!
COVID-19 drastically reduced hotel reservations in 2020. And this year brought additional challenges, as the building needed costly repairs and a new roof. Their best option was to pass the business along to a new owner, who is able to fund property upgrades (before reopening as an Airbnb). There is also ongoing challenges in covering special-needs costs for their daughter Isabella - who lives with Down syndrome.
It's Pete and Maria's heartfelt desire to find another opportunity in the lodging industry. We're developing an email list of former guests who may visit the Bay Area again - so we’ll let you know if they open a new place. Most of all, thank you for staying at Boca del Cielo Inn. It's been a great pleasure meeting you - your friends and family - and people from all over the world - we truly miss seeing everyone!
Most everyone earmarks part of their financial blessings to help others. Boca's property had dual ownership, so it was difficult to access many of the COVID-related assistance programs. If by chance you're able to support this fundraiser, we'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks, and we hope to see you again sometime in the future!
