3365 miles. That's the dream to photograph America coast to coast.
I grew up in a small town on the west coast in Oregon, the adopted son of a retired miltary man and an Asian immigrant woman. Growing up unlike most in my community has always made me look at this town a little differently. It was an amazing childhood, not always easy but memorable nonetheless. As time passed, I left the small town for larger cities, but the time I spent there as a child had a huge impact on forming my view of the world. I watched how fast the urban communites I lived in would change and gentrify. But I'd always return to my little town that seemed immune from change and always remained the place I grew up - until one day it wasn't anymore. I've watched my small town change as the population increased, big corporate-owned chains replaced the family-owned business, and main street evaporated into a steam of empty, dilapidated buidlings.
Ever since, I've always wanted to photograph other small towns across America and how they relate to these current fast moving times. Are they changing as well or sheltered and a living time capsule? Route 20 runs from my home state all the way across America: a direct coast-to-coast connection of our nation. Now in such a divided time, I find that it's more important to see how other Americans live and to use both Route 20 and street photography as a way to reconnect us as united Americans.

This is where I need your help! Though we saved for a year, our June 1st departure is fast approaching and we're not quite there yet. The funds raised will allow me to finish this grand project, helping cover fuel for the 7000 miles we'll travel there and back, as well as a possible traffic infraction or two. It will also help cover the portion of lodging we have not yet secured. As a thank you for your support we've set up a series of thank you rewards as you can see.
This art project has been a life long dream and your support allowing me to create this means more than you know. I can't wait to share this adventure and what we find as we cross the continent not once but twice and connect with America.
I was planning this trip in 2011 right before my illness and now with your help we're doing it!
